The wildlife kayak tour is amazing. We were deciding between a rental (cheaper) and the tour, and the tour is definitely worth it. We saw horses, of course, and our guide Chris pointed out so much wildlife that we would have missed on our own. He was incredibly informative. We saw mussels, terrapins, and various birds, and we even got to go clamming and catch fish and crabs. It was such a memorable experience. The staff in the store were really friendly and helpful, too. I somehow managed to lock my phone in the bathroom and they called a ranger to quickly retrieve it (Thank you!)

I had the opportunity to go on the wildlife tour at Assateague Outfitters on the last day of their tour season and the experience from start to finish was amazing. Our guide Steve was so knowledgeable about the wildlife in the bay and the marshes. On our trip we saw plenty of shorebirds, wading birds, crustaceans, turtles, and of course horses, while also getting some light exercise kayaking along the island and just enjoying being in nature. We got to learn about the natural history of the area and theories on the origin of the horses. Once we returned to the rental stand, the other guide Andrew was also super helpful with answering my questions. I had such a great time and I highly recommend that everyone takes a chance to go on the tour if you get the opportunity.

Absolutely gorgeous company. Easy to book and check in. They have a little shipping-container-turned shop, in case you forget something. Life jackets are mandatory for small kids. The water is warm and very shallow, definitely need some guidance about where to explore if you’re first time here. The tour is about 3h, got to see some birds, going under a wooden bridge, landing on a sandbar island, looking for some interesting critters (like worm saga, jelly fish, crabs, etc) and checking out the duck hide, then the net fishing on the way back, which was absolutely the highlight for my 6y. We had a fantastic afternoon by ending with swimming in the water after the tour. Not many ponies along the marshland, but they were everywhere along the road or in the bush. We saw more than 10.
